Monday's Word

Jesus tells us that the way to true greatness is being a servant to those around us.  In Mark 10:43, He puts it this way;

"You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the  Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.  Not so with you.  Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.  For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

If we want to truly live in God's Kingdom, then the rules completely change.  Leadership is not gained by stepping over and crushing those beneath, but by reaching under and supporting those around us.  We are always giving lip service to a desire to be like Jesus.  Here is a practical way to put our desire into practice!  Can you imagine the community-changing impact of a church whose members began to practice this attitude of servant hood in every opportunity around them?  "How might we serve you, Mr. Mayor, to help you meet your goals for this community?"  "Is there anything we might do to help you, as our local police force, to more effectively do your job in our community?"  "Are there any families in our area that are slipping through the cracks and struggling right now that we could help?"

If that is a little too much to take on a Monday morning, how about this thought ... Is there anyone in my life that God is prompting me to serve in some way?  Is there a situation at work where I could completely change my approach and take a servant's attitude?  Better yet, Are there ways in my home that I could humble myself and be more of a servant?

I want us all to be great!  Let's look for ways and pray for the right attitudes to make it happen!
